Mercado de la Paz
One of the reasons behind Spain’s thriving gastronomic culture is the traditional markets of its towns and cities, where everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to gourmet products can be found. Where advice on cooking and preparation is provided by the stall owners, some of whom have been there over several generations. Mercado de la Paz is one of the capital’s gastronomic jewels, located literally a stone’s throw from the Hotel Único Madrid. The historic wrought iron structure was designed by August Eiffel. In operation since 1879 today the market accommodates 60 different stands including bars, cafes and restaurants where the produce sold there can be sampled.
